Processing time

Step 1:
Prepare all required documents

• The company prepares the required documents based on the job position and the work permit type for which it intends to recruit a foreign worker.
• The foreign worker prepares the consular-legalized documents that he/she is able to provide for the work permit application. The consular legalization process usually consists of three steps:

1. Certified by Notary Public
2. Get the stamp of Ministry of Foreign Affairs
3. Legalized by Vietnamese embassy/ consulate in your home country

Legalized document usually take 2-4 weeks to complete

Step 2:
Submit work permit application to Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) in Hanoi

According to Decree No. 219/2025/ND-CP dated August 7, 2025, in order to apply for a work permit in Hanoi, the procedure consists of two steps:

• Step 1: Posting a recruitment notice to hire Vietnamese candidates for the position intended for a foreign worker.
• Step 2: Submitting the work permit application dossier.

For cases applying for a work permit under the “intra-company transfer” category, the employer is allowed to directly submit the work permit application dossier (Step 2) without having to carry out Step 1

Step 2: Work Permit application in Ha Noi: at least 10 working days

Step 3:
Pay the work permit fees

After the application is moved to the ‘Received’ status, the system will send a notification requesting payment of the work permit fee.
You only need to log in to your National Public Service Portal account, select the submitted application, and pay the fee in accordance with the instructions.

As soon as possible

Step 4:
Department reviews and verifies documents

The competent authority in Hanoi reviews and verifies the submitted documents. If any issues are identified, the applicant will be notified to revise or supplement the application.

Step 5:
Receive your Work Permit

After the system changes the status to “Result Issuance,” you can download the e-Work Permit
