VIETNAM 5 YEAR VISA EXEMPTION

Vietnam 5-year visa exemption is a visa valid for entry and exit from Vietnam issued to Vietnamese people such as overseas Vietnamese or foreigners who are spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens. Vietnam 5-year visa exemption can also replace Vietnam visa to enter for the purpose of visiting relatives and handling private affairs. Whoever entering Vietnam with Vietnam 5-year visa exemption can stay in Vietnam for no more than 06 months per entry and can extend it for no more than 06 months for a legitimate reason. The visa exemption certificate is valid for a maximum of 5 years and the short-term validity of a passport or document from abroad is 06 months. After 06 months, you need to exit Vietnam and enter again or apply for visa extension for continuously staying in the country.

WHO ARE ELIGLBLE FOR 5-YEAR VISA EXEMPTION VIETNAM?

  1. Vietnamese overseas residing foreign countries and do not have Vietnam passport.
  2. Foreigners who is spouse or children of a Vietnam passport-holder or overseas Vietnamese.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

(1)  Visa application form (Form NA9).

(2) Two recent passport photographs (size 4×6, with white background, direct look, without sunglasses or headwear).

(3)  Applicant’s passport (at least 1 year of validity) and a copy of the passport’s page (the page showing personal detail)

(4) One of the following documents proving the relationship between spouse and child with a Vietnamese residing abroad (attached with a photocopy for the competent authority to keep on file):

  • Marriage certificate;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Confirmation of parent-child relationship;
  • Decide to adopt a child;
  • Other valuable documents according to Vietnamese law.

(1)  Visa application form (Form NA9).

(2) Two recent passport photographs (size 4×6, with white background, direct look, without sunglasses or headwear).

(3)  Applicant’s passport (at least 1 year of validity) and a copy of the passport’s page (the page showing personal detail).

(4) One of the following documents (attached with photocopy for competent authority to keep records) (if any) proving the applicant’s Vietnamese origin:

  • A certificate of Vietnamese citizenship;
  • A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Recovery of Vietnamese citizenship;
  • A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Renunciation of Vietnamese citizenship;
  • Certificate of Lost of Vietnamese citizenship;
  • A Vietnamese passport (valid or invalid);
  • An Identity Card (valid or invalid);
  • A Birth Certificate;
  • The latest voter’s card;
  • A Family Register Book;
  • A travel document issued before 1975;
  • An Identity Card issued before 1975;
  • An Excerpt from Birth Register issued before 1975;
  • Other documents issued by competent foreign authorities if they can prove that the person in question has original Vietnamese citizenship or of Vietnamese origin

CAN I EXTEND THE 5-YEAR VISA EXEMPTION IN VIETNAM?

Requirements and conditions

  • People entering the country with a visa exemption certificate sponsored by Vietnamese citizen and with a legitimate reason;
  • Vietnamese people residing abroad and foreigners who are spouses, children of Vietnamese people residing abroad or of Vietnamese citizens with valid passports at least 1 year;
  • Do not into the cases of not allowing entry and temporarily postponing exit according to regulations.

  • Eligibility: The 5-year visa exemption for Vietnam is granted to Vietnamese overseas, foreigners who are spouses, children of Vietnamese overseas, or Vietnamese citizens.

If they wish to stay longer than 180 days without leaving the country, they can extend one time only their stay in Vietnam with support from a relative in Vietnam, with the extended duration being up to 6 months.

HOW TO USE THE 5-YEAR VIETNAM VISA EXEMPTION?

  • This visa exemption certificate is valid for 05 years with multiple entries. Each entry, you are allowed to stay up to 180 days. After this period of time, you will need to leave the country and enter again with new stay extension up to 180 days as regulation.
  • Otherwise, if you have a supporting document (proof of family relationship) from a relative in Vietnam, you can apply for visa extension/ stay extension within the country with the extended duration being up to 6 months.
  • Holders of 5-year visa exemptions done in Vietnam cannot use it to exit Vietnam immediately. They must exit with the Vietnam visa which they used to enter Vietnam. Then, the next time you enter with 5-year Vietnam visa exemption, you are able to use it to exit the country.
  • If the applicant’s passport or Green Card or Temporary Card is shorter than 5 years 6 months, then their visa exemption is shorter than 5 years.
