INDIA VISA POLICY FOR NATIONAL CITIZENS
From 2024, ordinary passport holders from 3 countries travelling to India for tourism purposes including Bhutan, Maldives and Nepal do not need a visa and will be granted a short-term stay on arrival, as follows:

  • Bhutan: Free to travel
  • Maldives: Allowed to enter India for 90 days without applying for a visa
  • Nepal: Free to travel (under the India-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1950)


INDIA VISA POLICY ON ARRIVAL (VOA)

Visa on arrival is only available to Japanese citizens, South Korea and UAE (only for UAE nationals who have previously obtained an e-Visa or an ordinary/paper visa for India). For nationals of all other countries eligible for an e-Visa, the e-visa application must be filled out online and the applicant must wait until an ETA is confirmed/issued to travel to India. 


INDIA VISA POLICY - INDIA E-VISA

The India E-visa policy has been applied by India since 2014. Initially issued to citizens of 40 countries, India E-visa was later expanded to include countries and territories. International visitors have objectives to visit India such as: entertainment, sightseeing, visiting friends and relatives, attending short-term yoga programs, short-term volunteer work (for a maximum period of one month), medical treatment, business purposes,... The majority of foreign visitors require a visa to enter India. There are different types of visas, depending on the nationality of the tourist, how long they plan to stay in the country, and the purpose of the visit.

IMPORTANT NOTE WHEN APPLYING FOR AN INDIA E-VISA (ONLINE)

  1. The applicant's passport must be valid for at least six months at the time of applying for an e-Visa, the passport must have at least two blank pages for the immigration officer to stamp the visa.
  2. For Tourist E-visa (01 year/05 years), Business E-visa, Health E-visa, Medical Stewardess E-visa and Conference E-visa, applicants of eligible countries/territories may apply online at least 4 days prior to arrival date. Applications can be made 120 days in advance from the intended date of travel.
  3. For Tourist E-visa (30 days), applicants of eligible countries/territories may apply online at least 4 days prior to arrival date. Applications can be made 30 days in advance from the intended date of travel.
  4. The India E-Visa is non-extendable, non-transferable and is not valid for visiting Protected / Restricted Areas and state areas.
  5. Pay via Credit and Debit Cards for all cards issued internationally by Visa & MasterCard.
  6. The fee for India E-visa payment of each type plus nearly $2.5 in taxes and fees. This fee is non-refundable in case the government refuses to issue an E-visa.
  7. Once the E-Visa application is approved, visitors must bring a photocopy of the E-Visa (ETA) with them upon entry into India.

Depending on the purpose of the trip as well as the approval of the Consular Office, the length of stay and the number of entries will vary. Currently, the number of entries being considered includes:
