If you plan to live or work in Vietnam as a foreigner, you will need to obtain a Vietnam Visa, a Work Permit, and a Temporary Residence Card (TRC). The TRC allows you to stay in Vietnam for 02 years up to 05 years, depending on which purpose of entry you are in Vietnam. Staying long in Vietnam is one of the many benefits of having TRC. HOW TO GET VIETNAM TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD – FULL IMPLEMENTATION GUIDANCE
Each category of Vietnam temporary residence card has a different implementation process. Basically, we can classify as follows:
Temporary residence card for foreign labor workers – Category LĐ: The duration of the TRC (LĐ) issued shall not exceed 02 years.
Temporary residence card for foreign investors – Category ĐT: The duration of TRC (ĐT) issued shall not exceed 05 years and according to the investment amount. Please kindly note that the conditions to issue a Temporary Residence Card for investment are as follows: The applicant must have their name on the Vietnam business registration license showing that they are the owner or shareholder of the company with a capital contribution of at least 3 billion VND.
Temporary residence card for foreign labor worker’s relatives – Category TT: The duration of this TRC (TT) is the same as the duration of the sponsoring person.
Temporary residence card for foreign spouse & children of Vietnamese citizens – Category TT: The duration of TRC (TT) issued shall not exceed 03 years.
Important Note: Temporary Residence Cards will not be issued if the applicant’s passport is valid for less than one year, and the duration of the residence card will always be at least one month shorter than the duration of the holder’s passport.

Kindly note that in case of accompanying relatives, documents showing proof of relationship such as birth certificates, marriage registration, and family register are a must (these documents must be consular legalized and translated into Vietnamese, unless they are exempt from consular legalization under the provisions of Article 9 of Decree No. 111/2011 / ND-CP dated 05/12/2011 of the Government on consular certification, consular legalization.)
HOW TO CANCEL TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD IN VIETNAM
There are two cases in which the sponsored company may cancel the TRCs of foreign employees.
In either of these cases, the employer company can submit a dossier to the Immigration Department to request the revocation of the TRC, which is sponsored by the company. This process is done to avoid any unexpected situations that may arise when the expatriate no longer works at the company.
