According to Vietnamese immigration regulations, any foreign child born in Vietnam must obtain a valid visa or temporary residence card (TRC) to legally stay in the country. Even though the baby is born in Vietnam, they do not automatically acquire Vietnamese nationality (unless specific conditions are met under nationality law). Therefore, parents must complete immigration procedures shortly after birth.

Step 1:
Getting identity documents for a newborn baby

Step 1: Obtaining the following documents:

  • Passport for baby born in Vietnam
  • Birth certificate for baby born in Vietnam
  • Family register updated newborn child information

Foreigner Parents go to their country's Consulate/Embassy in Vietnam to obtain these documents

Submit Visa application for new born baby

  • Foreign parents need to send all required documents they have prepared to the company for review.
  • Documents issued in English or other foreign language need to be translated into Vietnamese.

  • Access the link below: https://dichvucong.bocongan.gov.vn
  • Sign in to the company account using a USB token.
  • Find the visa application section.
  • Declare the required information, upload the documents, and submit the application.
  • Save the application code to track the application status.

7-10 working days

Step 3: Submit original document for infant born in Vietnam

  • After receiving the approval via email, there will be a request to pay the visa fee.
  • Make the payment and bring the original documents to the address specified by the authority for submission.
  • After 7–10 working days, return to collect the result.
